Perlite 100 Ltr Bag Perlite is a very useful medium being extraordinarily light with high water retention properties.  It is manufactured when volcanic rock is heated above 1000C and it expands into sterile soft white inert particles, those which are about 3mm in size are sold for hydroponic use.
